What outtakes from the 'Desire' sessions are circulating? Any from the 'big
band' session with Eric Clapton (the first Desire session IIRC). If they do,
does anyone know the name of the album they're on?

Cheers

The only unreleased "Desire" out-take I can think of that circulates
is the original version of Hurricane, before the lyric change for
legal reasons.

Rita May was released as a B-side, and is also on "Masterpieces",
Abandoned Love is on "Biograph", while Catfish and Golden Loom are on
"The Bootleg Series 1-3".

Some releases of "Desire" had an slightly extended version of Oh,
Sister, with Emmylou saying "I f***ed it up!".

One known song still in the can is Money Blues, a Dylan/Levy
composition, recorded 28 Jul 1975, while a song called Wiretappin' (It
Can Happen) was rumoured to have been recorded but isn't listed
anywhere. What looks like a "big band" session took place on 14 Jul
1975, but there's no mention of Eric Clapton:

Isn't there a "Rita May" outtake from the July 14 session (first
generally circulated on GBS3)? Or did I miss something?

You're right - I missed that one. Now I look again, there are three
circulating versions of Rita May, the out-take, the B-side and the
live performance from 3 May 1976.

Technically, another one circulating would be the "Rita May" from the
Clearwater rehearsals, 15 Apr 1976. Been a while since I've heard that
tape. I recall a pretty wretched attempt and might not be a complete
version. Available on several 1976 tour rehearsal collections such as
"Going Going Guam".

There are Desire outtakes on the boot "Songs for Patty Valentine" --

"Patty Valentine" includes the officially released (though not
collected on any of the "standard" albums) version of "Rita May"; it
doesn't include the unreleased outtake.

There's also an unreleased studio recording of "Hurricane" used
as background music in "Renaldo And Clara"; I believe it's not
included on any of the "soundtrack" boots/fan projects, which use only
the live performance shown in the film.

I'm not sure of the session dates, but Hurricane with the EC solo was
apparently erased.

Officially it was, but it circulates on boots such as:

Vastly Original Work From A Place No One’s Ever Been Before
The Genuine Bootleg Series (first set)
Odds & Ends (Unsurpassed Maestro Vol. 1)
ongs For Patty Valentine

Thanks, Alan. I'll have to go looking for it now.
